Meet our team, a spotlight on the faces behind Freshlook. Helping customers with great care and attention.
Meet Dawn, our HR and Business Development Manager!
What does a normal day look like for you?
I wake up at 6am every day and get myself ready for work. In my role as HR and Business Development Manager each day is different.
Dealing with day to day issues that crop up, either people related or business related, it challenges me and I enjoy every moment. I deal with the highs and lows and help implement business strategies which gives me great satisfaction.
What has been your favourite project so far?
My favourite thing so far has been recruiting new people, ensuring the right skill set and personalities are chosen to join a forward-thinking team. We’re making sure the workforce stay focused, and are investing into our employees who show that drive to succeed all the time.
Any hidden talents your co-workers don’t know about?
I come from an Irish family, so home is very important. I absolutely love cooking and feel happiest when I am feeding or entertaining my friends and family. I love being at home and welcoming everyone who visits.
People may not know that I have a very brave and strong-minded 17 year old son; an amputee so he’s quite dependant of me. He is interested in becoming a designer for prosthetic limbs, to help children love and accept themselves for who they are. He’s been a true hero to our family and many people.
What were your aspirations as a youngster?
When I was really little, I wanted to be a nurse. I wanted to look after disabled adults and children. I think this came to me because my Sister was disabled. She passed when I was 11. I decided to volunteer with Mencap and hospitals until I was 18 years old. I then decided to take an apprenticeship within manufacturing and my life has unfolded within this exciting industry ever since.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced in this industry?
The competition within this industry is big and I have worked with companies that have needed to reduce their workforce. I was responsible for redundancy scheduling, but needed to keep the right skill set too. I like to go home and think “today was a challenge” – whether it’s a bad or good challenge it’s a sense of achievement.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I want to become more of an incremental part of this team. What I love about business is that there’s no guarantees. Small businesses especially have to fight to survive. You have to rely on everybody and we all need to work together as a team. That’s what I love about Freshlook.
The projected growth of the business for training and investment is a wonderful promise that I’m really looking forward to being a part of. I get such a buzz out of recruitment – finding the right people who will be taking the business forward in the right way. I am particularly looking forward to seeing younger generations join our team, it’s something the company and I believe in, massively.
